Getting a LOT More Done All Day: A Counter-Intuitive Productivity Tip

A simple tip from Tim Ferriss that increased our energy and productivity

Want to know how a 5 minute change to our morning routine (that does not involve exercise) created a quantum leap in our productivity?

IGotTheIdea

Here's the story:

A week ago Wednesday, Jim and I were listening to an interview with Tim Ferriss, best-selling author of The 4-Hour Workweek, The 4-Hour Body, and most recently, The 4-Hour Chef.

Tim is always entertaining and we had just gotten The 4-Hour Chef on our iPads.

During the interview, Tim recommended that to lose weight, if you only do one thing (and changed nothing else), the one thing you should do is to consume 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up.

Interesting.

Since we both had decided we wanted to lose 5-10 pounds after the holidays, traveling, etc., we decided to give it a try.

What we didn't expect is the huge impact it would have on our productivity. More about that in a moment.

The Details - What We Did

A week ago Thursday morning 15 minutes after getting up, we made a protein shake to get 30 grams of protein with Blue Diamond original almond milk, a few slices of frozen banana, and this protein powder:

Frankly, it probably sounds fairly awful, but it tastes pretty good. :-)

We made no other changes in our diet, exercising, etc.

The Results - First 12 Days

The first thing we noticed is that we didn't run out of energy all day. We usually both get tired in the late afternoon (the 3:00 p.m. slump), but that didn't happen.

The enhanced energy has continued every day since.

In addition, we both started noticing that we were accomplishing so much more each day. It was frankly very shocking how much more we were getting done. This was totally unexpected.

In addition, three of our friends who we told about this also decided to try it. One has lost 4 lbs. All three have noticed big boosts in their productivity.

Caveat: Naturally, we are not giving you medical, financial or legal advice. Check with the professionals you rely on (your doctor, etc.) before you try anything we are describing.

In conclusion, we're thrilled that this simple change has led to us losing some weight -- and more important, has boosted our energy and productivity significantly.
